Dublin 1922, a politically turbulent time, as the Irish fight for the new Free State while husband and wife Jack and Juno Boyle joke through the hardships of their daily life and their son, Johnny,  waits in fear of being shot by the paramilitary as an informer.

Their beautiful daughter Mary attracts two admirers, one being a stranger who brings news of an unexpected legacy, which turns the family’s  lives upside down.

A tragi-comedy made into a film in 1930 by Alfred Hitchcock.
